great stone patio choice. The incredible colors

& landscape design. Colored or Stained concrete
is also a great choice for a more formal or
contemporary look – it can also save you some

FLAGSTONE PATIO “DESIGN TIP”: Flagstone
precision cut patios are some of the most
gorgeous patios projects around. Arizona
flagstone contains some of the lighter colors,
make sure you select a color that is not prone
to “flaking”. Darker colors are harder to cut,
cost more, and will require a premium to install
– make sure it’s worth the extra financial
investment on your next Phoenix flagstone patio
project.

QUALITY DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION
 Unique takes
pride in it’s installation of all of our Arizona
patio projects. We realize that this is one of
the single largest investments on any Phoenix
landscape project, and we have spent years
developing our installation techniques in order
to out-perform our competitors. All of our
patios begin with a solid sub-base. This
sub-base is the “footer” of the patio, and
creates the base for which the entire patio
exists. Some of the cheaper installation
techniques involve installing patios without
this “sub-base”, and many companies can beat our
prices by doing so. Please make sure you fully
understand the differences in patio installation
techniques prior to using a cheaper alternative.
ALL PATIOS ARE NOT THE SAME!
Our
travertine paver & Belgard / Pavestone paver
patios are installed over a 4 – 6” compacted ABC
sub-base. This sub-base is made of inorganic
engineered soil, and compacted to 95% compaction
(using a plate compactor & proper water/soil
mixture). For driveways, Unique uses the
addition of Portland cement, which allows for
extra stabilization where tires cause extra
weight & traffic. After the paver sub-base is
compacted, our skilled masons install only ½” of
sand to ensure the travertine pavers or concrete
pavers are perfectly level, and maintain proper
drainage away from pools & houses. After laying
the pavers, most of our patios are then sanded
with polymeric “stabilized” joint sand, to
ensure proper stabilization and longevity of the
sanded grout.
Unique’s
Flagstone patios are always installed over
existing concrete, or over a 3” concrete
sub-base (not compacted ABC). This ensures that
our highest priced patio is installed to last a
lifetime! After we install our flagstone patio
sub-base, our flagstone setters are trained to
meticulously diamond cut all the edges of the
flagstone, and piece it together so that there
is no more than ½” of a grout joint between each
piece. This creates one of the most spectacular
Phoenix flagstone patios that our clients have
ever seen – we guarantee it!
The “UNIQUE”
difference – After many years of perfecting our
products, we have come up with the best possible
way to construct many of our popular items. Here
is how we differ from our competition:
 • Proper
sub-base - Not all patios are equal! All of
our patios are installed over the required and
recommended sub-base. Make sure you are fully
educated on the manufacturer’s recommended
installation methods, and that your installer
follows these (there are many places to take
shortcuts in Phoenix patio installations!)
•
Flagstone – Unique guarantees that our
flagstone patios are one of the best in the
valley. Our full-time flagstone crew is so
experienced! It’s all they do! Unique installs
our Phoenix flagstone patios over 3” of concrete
minimum, and uses bonding adhesives to make sure
all of our patios are less prone to cracking,
than any other company in the valley.
 • The
Belgard Paver Guarantee – We’ve mentioned
that not all patios are created equal, well….all
pavers are not created equal either! Unique has
used some of the cheaper alternatives in the
past, and had many problems with warranty &
customer service from those manufacturers.
Belgard pavers (one of the nation’s largest
paver manufacturers) have a 5-year guarantee on
labor AND material for all of Unique’s paver
installations! The other companies don’t, so
don’t save the pennies on those cheaper brands.
• DRAINAGE
– Our patios are guaranteed to drain
properly – in fact, it’s one of the most
important aspects on our projects (proper
drainage). Proper drainage starts with fully
understanding the drainage issues in the entire
project, setting proper grades, and our
engineering background.
